The EQ-i 2.0® Emotional Intelligence model measures our emotional intelligence, as a set of emotional and social skills that influence the way we perceive and express ourselves, develop and maintain social relationships, cope with challenges, and use emotional information in an effective and meaningful way.
Why is Emotional Intelligence important? Often distortedly perceived, emotional intelligence is not the opposite of intelligence. It is not the triumph of heart over head. It is, instead, the unique intersection of both. While cognitive intelligence is a strategic construct (a long-term capacity), emotional intelligence is a tactical one (for immediate functioning).
Emotional intelligence helps to predict success, reflecting how a person applies knowledge to the immediate situation. In a way, to measure emotional intelligence is to measure one’s ability to be positively versatile, get along with others and deal with various situations.
- Employee Training and Development
The unique advantage that the emotional intelligence has over cognitive intelligence is that the skills and behaviors measured by the EQ-i2.0® can be enhanced and developed throughout our life. For this reason, EQ-i2.0® assessment can be used to “translate” areas of opportunity for development into skills and behaviors that are amenable to training and coaching.
This, in turn, can lead to a significant increase in the individual performance, teamwork synergy, and leadership potential. The development areas the EQ-i2.0® identifies, along with the targeted strategies it provides, make it a highly effective employee development tool.
- Individual and Organizational Resilience
Emotional intelligence has at its core the ability to use emotions to effectively cope with challenges. This includes the capacity to choose among a repertoire of coping strategies, display a positive disposition towards your situation and change in general, and feel that you can calmly influence a stressful situation without being derailed by your emotions.
Individuals’ and organizations’ capacity at coping with and remaining resilient in the face of demands, challenges, and pressures has always been integral components of their success.
- Job Satisfaction, Organizational Climate, and Individual Well-Being
Success, job satisfaction, and adaptation to organizational climate change can be predicted by looking at any number of EQ-i2.0® factors. Nevertheless, the starting question, instrumental for all the emotional intelligence research since 25 years ago was: “Why do some people have better psychological well-being than others?”
The entire body of research investigating the links between EI and well-being, generally conclude that EI is a beneficial predictor of emotional and psychological health and well-being. The EQ-i2.0®, therefore, enables qualified professionals to create tailor-made training programs to improve the emotional skills and functioning of individual employees or, on a larger scale, with the organization as a whole.
- Recruitment and Induction
The EQ-i2.0® has proven to be an effective and versatile tool for use in the corporate environment. The EQ-i2.0®is used as an employee screening tool, and it enhances the reliability and effectiveness of the employee recruitment and selection process.
Supplementing the traditional sources of information, such as interviews, technical assessments, behavioral observations, EQ-i2.0® can make the recruitment process more reliable and efficient, as a number of EQ-i2.0® factors have been shown to be directly related to performance success in a variety of domains. A sound recruitment process leads to an enhanced induction process, higher retention rates, and reduced turnover, resulting in recruitment cost savings, improved employee effectiveness, and increased morale.
